Family Values

Reference: Deuteronomy 11:18-20 So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors.

Observation: How do we pass on our values to our kids? By making sure, first, that we live out those values and then, that we talk about why we do what we do--at every opportunity.
We need to look for those chances when we can talk to our kids about our beliefs.
Here Moses gives some very practical suggestions; use travel time as "values talk time". Remember that when they are going to bed and when they get up they are most open to talking about more significant things. Write them out--put scripture around the house so that they are seeing it and meditating on it.

Use every change you have to pass on what you know about God and His ways because Satan and this world will do everything they can to steal it away from them.

Application/Confession: I need to talk about my beliefs to my kids more. I do talk about them, but it needs to be more intentional and intensive.

PRAYER: Remind me, Lord, of Satans schemes to steal the hearts of my kids and help me to be faithful to pass on what You have taught me to them.
