Fantasyland;
A Great Place to Visit,
Just don’t live There
Reference: Proverbs 12:11 A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense.
Observation: Lives have been destroyed by people who think they are living in faith but are, in fact, living in a fantasy. We can so want something that we can convince ourselves that God wants it for us. We can spend our time, our money and spin our wheels trying to see some scheme work out that was never based in reality.
It seems that Christians are especially susceptible to get rich quick or unbelievable return schemes because we are taught to trust people and to believe for God’s outrageous blessing.
Never forget, God tells us, as well, to be good stewards of our time and money. When we are chasing fantasies we wasting both.
This scripture tells us how to avoid this trap. If we want to be blessed, work hard. We should not put our faith in the latest fast money idea, put it in God, then work, save and give generously of His money He has given us and we will be blessed.
Application/Confession: Work, save, give--it is probably good advice. It is probably the way to be a good steward of what God has given me. But there is a part of me that simply wants to win the lottery, find that scheme that returns a 1000% a year, or suddenly have my debt forgiven. No one, including me, likes the hard work of building wealth over time, but I need to be resolved that it is the only way to be a good steward of what God has given me.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be faithful. Whether you favor me with a lot of money or a little, may I be faithful with whatever you give me.
