4/16/2008 - But I Want To Be Something Great! Luke 18:14b

But I Want To Be Something Great!

Reference: Luke 18:14b For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Observation: Our world trains us to "promote ourselves", "put our best foot forward", remember "if you don’t tell others how great you are, who will?". God requires a different approach. He calls us to humble ourselves. Let others do the promoting, let God do the exalting, our job is to humble ourselves and remain that way.

It is not a success strategy of the kind our world is used to, but it is from God’s perspective. It takes faith on our part to believe that if we are not self-promoters, that God will, indeed, notice and exalt us in the time and place of His choosing.

Application/Confession: I think I don’t get enough recognition. More than 200 people every day read my blog. I can preach pretty darn well. I work really hard. Why doesn’t anyone notice!!

Those are exactly the kinds of thoughts that God wants me to submit to Him. I need to remain humble and remember that it is always His work in me and through me that matters. On my own I can do nothing, exactly nothing! I need to be careful of the temptation to just find someway to slip into casual conversation how really great I am while maintaining the appearance of humility. Lord, save me from my prideful self!!

PRAYER: You, Lord, are my all. I am nothing without you. Help me to remain humble before you. I submit to you my ambition and ask you to exalt me on your schedule, not mine.
