4/20/2010 - Passion + Wisdom = Good Decisions Proverbs 13:16
Passion + Wisdom = Good Decisions Reference: Proverbs 13:16 Wise people think before they act; fools don’t; and even brag about their foolishness. Observation: Watch a Disney movie or two and one can get the strong impression that all it takes to achieve your dreams is to "follow your heart". That advice is, too often, simply a way of not having to think before we act. In fact, our whole world teaches us to act with our feelings rather than our minds. What is the result? A lot of foolish decisions; relationships entered into that should have been avoided, money spent that needed to be saved, words spoken that were better left unsaid. In short, when we make decisions only with our hearts, we will be at the mercy of our passions and we and our families will suffer for it. Do our emotions, our hearts, our passions, have any place in decision making? Of course, why would we do anything if we have no passion or desire to do it? In fact, God promises to give us the desires of our hearts. The key is, to be wise in how we go about obtaining those things we desire. Make sure that God wants you to have them and then ask Him for the wisdom and timing on how to pursue them. Proverbs reminds us over and over the value of getting counsel from others and God will speak through them--so look for wise advice as well. Wisdom added to passion will help us make good decisions. Application/Confession: There are times when I spend money because I feel like it. I know I can’t really afford it. I don’t want to ask God because I know what He will say. So I spend the money and then I regret it. I want to learn to do better. I want to be on His financial plan not my own. PRAYER: Lord, simply remind me to think. I want to ask You into my mental discussion and let You guide me as I am committed to slow down and think about the decisions I make. |
