God Wants You to Be Strong
Reference: Psalms 89:17 You are their glorious strength. It pleases you to make us strong.
Observation: There are several entries in this blog that speak of our need to be dependant on God or embracing our weaknesses. Yet, God’s goal is not to make us weak but to make us strong. We are dependant on Him because that is the place of greatest strength. We, with Paul, admit our weaknesses because those are the very places that God can be most strong through us.
"It pleases You to make us strong." In what ways does God intend to make us people of power? He wants to make us strong in obedience to Him, strong in our ability to face difficult times without giving up, strong in our willingness to step out and risk for the Kingdom, strong in standing up for what we believe.
On the other hand, God’s kind of strength is not the independent, push others around, swaggering kind of persona that this world associates with strength. It is, instead, the inward, quiet assurance that God deeply cares for us and has our life and future in His hands. Therefore we can walk without fear or faltering.
Application/Confession: I still find myself worrying about the future and current circumstances. I’m not as strong in that area as I would like to be. I allow my self-worth to be measured by this world’s view of my success rather than God’s loving evaluation of me. I want to be strong, but His way, not mine.
PRAYER: Thank you that it pleases you to make me strong. I want to be. I want to leave behind this weak, worrying heart and put on a brave one attuned to and trusting in you.
