Never Forget--Your Days are Numbered
Reference: Psalms 90:12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.
Observation: The King James translation of this verse asks God to "teach us to number our days". We simply do not know how much longer we will have to live it. When we learn to keep that in mind, it helps us to be serious about how we live the days that we do have.
What should we do with our brief life? Invest it in those things that are our first priority; God, our family, others. We should be careful not to waste too much of our precious time on those things that are clearly less important; worthless entertainment, unnecessarily conflict and nursing our hurts and anger towards others.
We need to realize that life is short; we need to let that truth lead us to live our short lives in a wise way with a clear view to eternity.
Application/Confession: I waste time. Wasting time is really wasting my life. In less than 2 months I will be 50. This milestone birthday reminds me that my life is finite and I can not afford to waste it. I need to be more careful to invest it in the Kingdom of God and in my family; that is where true wisdom lies.
PRAYER: Help me to remember how short life is and to live it with that in mind. When I am wasting my life on worthless activities, please remind me what a precious commodity I am really wasting.
