4/24/2008 - How Is The Home Make-over Going? Proverbs 14:1

How Is The Home Make-over Going?

Reference: Proverbs 14:1 A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

Observation: This verse challenges us to think about what our actions are doing to our family. How often do women and men, moms and dads, let their anger or lust get the better of them without considering the effects of their daily decisions.

We never really live our lives just for ourselves. There is always someone watching and being influenced by our actions. But, when we have children, it is all the more true that what we do really matters. They see every act of rage, dishonesty or foul-mouthedness and they will imitate it. A lot of parents don’t like what they see their kids becoming, but they are what they are because their parents have been what they have been.

We need to ask ourselves; are we building our homes and families or tearing them down? We will be answering that question in a small way every single day and our kids will pay the price for our actions.

Application/Confession: Some days, when I get home, I just want to be selfish. I want everyone else to serve me. I forget that my selfishness will produce the same things in my children. I don’t want them to be self-centered. I guess I need to learn to be less so myself.

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for my family. Help me to be an example for them, by your power, every day. Never let me forget that they are on loan from you and I will have to give an account of how I cared for your kids that you lent to me.
