Doesn’t Anyone Really Get Me?

Reference: Proverbs 14:10 Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can fully share its joy.

Observation: Many times we think, deep in our hearts, that there is someone, somewhere who can fully understand both our deep, deep pain and our most profound joys. While there are many who can, to a degree, understand what we experience (for those of us that are fortunate, this includes our spouses), it is wise to accept that there is only so far any other person can go with us into the depths of our emotions. It may be that many dysfunctional relationships are a result of looking for this kind of connection that can never really happen.

The good news is that God Himself, who made us, is able to completely share our pain and fully understand our joy. He is the only one capable of truly entering the deepest places in our hearts and living there with us. When we thirst for this kind of connection, it is He we need to look to.

Application/Confession: Sometimes I get frustrated that others do not understand what I go through. It seems that their reaction to it is so surface, so lacking in true understanding. I feel like getting upset with them that they do not seem to hurt with me or rejoice with me to the level that I am hurting or rejoicing. I need to remember that they are simply not truly capable of feeling what I am feeling and before I condemn them for that, I need to recognize that I can not fully enter into their pain or joy either.

I need to accept what they can and graciously desire to give and go to the one who can fully understand and walk with me in my pain and joy--God Himself.

PRAYER: Lord, you know me. Better than anyone else. You understand my heart; You can walk with me in the good times and bad. Help me to remember to be thankful for what the people You have put in my life can do for me to support me, but, more importantly, to run to You.
