4/30/2008 - One Night On Network TV Psalms 101:3

One Night On Network TV

Reference: Psalms 101:3 I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. 4 I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. 5 I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride.

Observation: In one night of watching network television we would violate everyone of these commitments. There is so much vileness, vulgarity, evil, perverse ideas, slander, conceit and pride. We should consider what it does to us to be bathed in this kind of onslaught day after day. It is no wonder that we adopt the ways of this world when we are exposed to them over and over.

We need to make a choice to simply turn it off! If what we are watching or the amount we are watching is making our souls become comfortable with what is evil, we need to change our approach and our viewing habits.

Application/Confession: I need to be more aware of what I let into my mind. As the old saying goes, "garbage in, garbage out." If I want to think like God thinks and be free from the bondage of sin, I can not allow myself to bath in it and hope that it does not effect me.

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord for the multitude of junk that I have allowed into my home and into my brain. Cleanse me of it and help me to have the strength to reject it when it comes my way. No matter how pretty and attractive sin looks, may I see it for what it is and choose not to allow it to be what I am entertained by.

My thought exactly! Turn it off. I'm not a Christian, but of course there is stuff out there I simply won't watch. This in contrast with quite a few somewhat like-minded people around me, who will watch it and then burst out in vulgarity about what they have had to endure on TV. I do believe however, that we are adult people and that we should be able to handle some televised vulgarity without getting all worked up about it, just not to the degree of vulgarity, profanity, etc. just for the sake of vulgarity. Anyway, if you feel they're taking it to far, just press that remote and stop watching it.
