Dancing In The Dark
Reference: John 3:19b-20 . . . people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.
Observation: What is one of the greatest draws of the Internet? The feeling that no one knows what someone is doing or who they really are. People can go into chat rooms and even whole virtual worlds and hide behind a screen name or an avatar and never let their true identity out.
The fact is that many hide, trying to find places where there can not be identified because, in spite of what they may say, they know that what they are doing is wrong.
We need to look at our lives and see if there are places where we have to hide. Just like mold in the dark, those are the places where sin can best grow. If we want to be free, we must live our lives in the open. Open first to the light of God’s love and, then, open to others, willing to be vulnerable and show them who we are and how we live.
There is safety and health in living in the light.
Application/Confession: There are things about my life and feelings and reactions that I want to keep private. God is working on me to live a totally open life--no secret places. I want to live there but it is scary. I am afraid of rejection and misunderstanding. I am afraid of being the subject of gossip. I need to fully accept that this vulnerability is worth the risk.
PRAYER: Teach me that you fully accept me no matter what. May I become so secure in your love that I can risk rejection by being more open with people. Thank you that you will never leave me or forsake me.
