REFERENCE: Psalm 141:1-5 O Lord, I am calling to you. Please hurry!
. . . 3 Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips. 4 Dont let me drift toward evil
. . . 5 Let the godly strike me! It will be
a kindness! If they correct me, it is soothing medicine. Dont let me
refuse it.
Observation: There are
several really cool things here that I thought would be noticing;
o
How
often do we feel like this as we are relating to God; "Please hurry!" We don't
like to wait but it really is good for us. God does not make us because He
hates us or because He doesn't have the power to act. Waiting gives us a chance
to build our faith and increase our patience. It is a good thing.
o
Vs.
3 is a great prayer to pray. The problem is that we have to do more than to ask
God to control our mouth; we have to give Him that control. That means shutting
it when He tells us to.
o
We
seldom walk right into evil but we often drift towards it. It would be wise to
watch for that dangerous drift.
o
Vs.
5 makes a couple of good points. We ought to be looking for the Godly, not necessarily
the merely "street smart", to give us correction and direction.
o
When
the Godly do speak into our lives, we really ought to listen even if it feels
like they are hitting us in the head with it. We need to be open and wise
enough to know not to refuse correction just because it is not delivered as gently
as it should be. We are the ones who will lose out if we refuse it.
Application/Confession: All good things for me to remember!
PRAYER: Lord, help me to apply this part of your Word to my life.
