7/13/2008 - Fools Encouraging Fools Romans 1:28 & 32

Fools Encouraging Fools

REFERENCE: Romans 1:28 & 32 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. . . . 32 They know God´s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

Observation: Boy, if this doesn´t sound like the world we live in!! "They thought it foolish to acknowledge God." These days, if you admit that God is real and active you are labeled an idiot. One commentator, Christopher Hitchens, wrote a whole book (God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything) about how religious belief is responsible for most of the problems in the world.

This scripture tells us that the result of thinking that a belief in God is foolish, is to become foolish. The result of rejecting the idea of God, active in the universe, is the ridiculous conclusion that all we can see has come about on its own, without design or pattern. Now that´s foolishness. The result of rejecting a God who sets a moral code is the belief that we can live however each one sees fit and not end up with chaos and destruction. We are finding out, practically, how foolish that is.

What is sad is not just that people have rejected God and His principles for life, but that they have encouraged others to do so as well. The message of much of the entertainment media in our country is; "Do what your heart desires and it will all work out."

If we are brave enough to look around us carefully, we can see the obvious and negative results of a whole society that, increasingly, believes that God is irrelevant to the moral choices we make. We have become foolish, as a country, as a result.

PRAYER: Lord, save our country from our own foolishness. Forgive us for rejecting You. We have come to believe in and trust only ourselves and it has brought destruction and ruin to us. Please forgive us and bring a revival of faith in You to our land.
