7/19/2008 - Someone Died For Me Romans 5:6-8

Someone Died For Me

REFERENCE: Romans 5:6-8 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Observation: What is our value as a person based on? If we listen to the opinions of this world, it will be based on our looks, our money or our fame. How much better, and more real, would it be if our value were based on the opinion of the God of the entire universe? He has made it clear that although He knows us fully, He also loves us totally. That´s pretty good!

Beyond that and even greater than that, Jesus gave His life for us. On those days when we feel like everyone is against us, that our value has leaked out the bottom of our shoes, that we have accomplished nothing of value, remember that Jesus looked at us, individually, and decided that we were worth dying for. Never forget that!! We have immense value.

Application/Confession: I feel, at times, like a failure. I feel like I´m not a good husband. I wonder if I can really do this pastor thing. It is at those times that I need to remind myself of what God thinks of me. I am of great value. I want to feel like that.

PRAYER: Help me to see me in your eyes. Help me to see the value and worth that you see.

I can understand and relate to your struggle. Anyone who has had an encounter with Christ and seeks to live a life pleasing to Him, will feel the incredible weight of their imperfection. If they don't feel inadequate, I dare say they are guilty of pride. I fail DAILY. But I never give up and I take comfort in the fact that God loves me and loved me before I ever knew he did.
