I AM Free!
REFERENCE: Romans 6:6-7 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Observation: If we are set free from the power of sin then why do we keep sinning? One reason is that we really don’t realize, at a heart level, that we have been set free. Although we are free, we live like slaves because we feel like slaves. Like a prisoner whose cell door has been unlocked, we don’t even try it because we have given up on being free.
The other reason is that this freedom is found in God, in His grace. We try to live the freedom He has promised by just trying harder. It simply doesn’t work. We must, instead, throw ourselves on His grace and realize that the power to change comes from His Spirit and not from our own strength. We have to find ourselves in Him, daily, minute by minute, looking for the power to be what He has made possible.
Application/Confession: I have tasted that freedom and I love it. Still, at times, I struggle with sin. I want to be free and I am learning to bury myself in His grace, to stay closely close to Him, to find that freedom.
PRAYER: You have declared that I am no longer a slave to sin--thank You. Now God, give me the grace to see myself free and live like that every day.
