7/28/2010 - The Hypocrite and His Kids Proverbs 20:7

The Hypocrite and His Kids

REFERENCE: Proverbs 20:7 The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.

Observation: The most important influence we can have is on our own children. Notice that the Proverbist says "their children who follow them." That is what our kids do, they follow us, for better or for worse. They, more than anyone besides our spouse and God, know whether we have integrity - if we are living up to the godly standard we profess. If we do, they will be led toward godliness. If we don’t, our hypocrisy will lead them away from God.

It seems to me that one of the most common reasons that children walk away from God when they get into their Jr. High, High School and college years is that one or both of their parents do not live in private what they profess in public.

If we want our children to be blessed, if we want them to have a close relationship with God, we need to make sure we walk with integrity outside and inside of our private lives.

Application/Confession: I feel like I do pretty well with this. God has helped me deal with anger and my family sees me pursuing God daily. I need to pray with them more. I need to be in the Word with them more. I think this would help me be effective in leading them into Godliness.

PRAYER: Lord, I want my children to be blessed. Help me always to have integrity. Help me to find the time to lead them into prayer and study of your Word. Thank you for my family.
