Why Brains Alone Wont Work When It Comes To Knowing God
REFERENCE: I Corinthians 1:19-21 As the Scriptures say, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent." 20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the worlds brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
Observation: Why does Gods truth destroy the wisdom of the wise and the intelligence of the intelligent? Because Gods truth is based on revelation. If He does not show us who He is, we can not know. There is simply no way we can reason from our puny brains outward to discover God. Since it takes Him revealing Himself to us, the only way to find Him is to come with an earnest, seeking heart; one that looks for Him with all of our souls. Then, the Word tells us, He will let us find Him.
Our pride makes us want to discover God on our own terms; to find Him in our test tubes, to slice and dice Him with our philosophical designations, to study Him in our books. Yet finding Him requires humility instead of pride; a willingness to admit that our brains are too small to find Him out, an open, searching heart instead of trust in our own intellect.
Pride is our real problem and true humility is the only hope we have for redemption.
