Loving The Right Things
REFERENCE: Isaiah 5:20-22 What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. 21 What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. 22 What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold.
Observation: This sounds so much like modern day America. We say that the evil of homosexuality is not just OK but something to be celebrated. We declare abortion is a "choice" to be protected at all costs. When a celebrity is found to be constantly drunk or high it does nothing to dim their star of fame. We hate what God loves (purity, innocence, standing against evil, modesty) and we love what God hates (sexual promiscuity, violence, greed, pride, obscene materialism). We celebrate all the wrong things. Should we not fear the kind of judgment that Jerusalem and Israel experienced?
Application/Confession: Too often I find myself being entertained, on television, by the very things that God finds abhorrent. I need to learn to hate what He hates so much that I cant watch it. I can not risk taking on the values and character of this world.
PRAYER: Give me a heart like yours. Forgive me for exposing it to those things that will corrode and destroy my values. I want to love what You love and absolutely hate and despise the things that You hate. Help me to.
