9/21/2009 - What You Sow Is What You Reap Galatians 6:7-9
Posted in Unspecified

What You Sow Is What YOu Reap

REFERENCE: Galatians 6:7 Don´t be misled--you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let´s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don´t give up.

Observation: This is truly one of those good news/bad news kind of verses. On the one hand, we can be assured that if we live to please God He will not forget. He will not fail to bless us for doing so. Everlasting life is not just time in eternity but a quality of life now.

On the other hand, if we do what our sinful nature tells us to, no matter how much we think we can get a way with, it will come back to bite us. Satan´s biggest ploy is to tell us that God does not notice what we do either good or bad. He tries to tell us that there are no consequences for our actions. It should be obvious that this is not true. Just as in the physical universe, "for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction" so in the moral universe except that the rebound is not opposite, it is of the same nature as the action. Good actions will always bring (eventually) good results and bad actions (eventually) bad results.

Waiting, though, is hard. It is not hard to wait for the bad results. We simply hope they will never come. But it is hard to be patient waiting for God to reward us for the good that we do. Just remember, sowing and harvesting always come in different seasons. When it is the season to sow, sow as much good stuff as you can as broadly as you can, so that when harvest time comes you can reap broadly.

Application/Confession: I have written it before, I have sometimes wondered if God notices all that I do for Him. Seeing the goodness in my life that is "popping up" these days, I am beginning to be convinced in a new way. After many long years of sowing, I am beginning, the last few years, to reap. I am believing God for more.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, please stunt the harvest of the bad seeds I have planted and remember all the ways I have sown to the Spirit. I am seeing new blessing in my life and ministry. I want to see more. I believe that You are a just and faithful God and I will wait for Your grace.
