God’s Mad At Sinners
REFERENCE: Eph 2:3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
Observation: When we read the Old Testament we can’t help but be reminded, over and over, how much God hates sin (and even, although we hate to admit it, He hates sinners). Here we see it even in the New Testament. Without Christ, we are subject to God’s anger, He would be against us.
It should cause us to realize, all the more, how great the grace of God is towards us. We don’t deserve it. We are certainly on His bad side, but He chose to send Jesus so that He could love us and invite us into His family. Amazing Grace indeed.
Application/Confession: How I take sin so very, very less seriously than God does. I see others sinning on TV and I am entertained rather than repulsed by it. People tell me of their sin and my first thought is to make them feel OK rather than hating that sin like God does. When I fall to sin I see it as a small “mistake” rather that a horrible offense that God hates and sent Jesus to the cross. I need a revelation of the real horrid nature of sin.
PRAYER: Lord, may I see how awful sin truly is in Your eyes. It cost Jesus great pain, suffering and, ultimately, His life. You can’t even look at or be near to sinners. I want to hate what You hate as much as I want to love what You love.
