What Are You Like in The Pressure Cooker?

Reference: Proverbs 24:10 If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small.

Observation: You really don´t know how strong or weak you are until you face pressure, stress, or difficulty. We may argue that it was the stress itself that caused the weakness. "I wouldn´t have snapped like that but I was having a hard week." It wasn´t the pressure that caused the behavior; it merely revealed the weakness that was already there.

Because of this we should value our times of stress. It is a test to see how mature we really have become. It reveals how far we have progressed and what still needs work.

Application/Confession: Before I got married I thought I was the most easy going guy; that I never got mad or upset. In the pressure of the first few months of marriage I discovered that my strength in this area was small indeed. I found the anger that was lurking inside of me. I had to learn, over time, how to deal effectively with it.

I still hate pressure-filled times. I need to, instead, value them for what they reveal in me. One thing I am learning, and dealing with, is that I have discovered that when I am under stress my need for control shoot up. Difficulties in my life revealed that tendency and I am working with God to change it.

PRAYER:
Thank you Lord of all you reveal to me about me. I know that, under pressure, I take responsibility that is only Yours--that I want to be in control. Teach me to trust You instead.
