Whose On YOur Side?
REFERENCE: Psalms 73:25-26 Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. 26 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.
Observation: After wondering why the rich and powerful, but evil, people around him seem to be doing just great, the Psalmist decides to surrender to God and admit what he can not deny; God really is his only love and only hope. It is the same for us. We may rail against God´s apparent inaction - against evil and on our behalf. We may get frustrated the poor are blessed and we seem cursed. Yet, we have to decide, as David did, that God is our only hope and our only love.
"Who have I in heaven but you?" Who can we pray to and expect answers to our prayers? Who else can we depend on to rescue us?
"I desire you more than anything on earth." It is this attitude, in David, that God rewarded. It is this heart-felt, passionate seeking after God that will make all the difference in our lives.
"God remains the strength of my heart" The truth is, we all need a crutch. All of us humans need someone to rely on, to lean on. Even in the midst of our frustration with Him, we have to admit that only God can fulfill that place in our lives.
Application/Confession: I want to always desire intimacy with God before and above every earthly desire. I can´t say that this is always true for me.
PRAYER: God, please give me the desire and the power I need to desire you above all else. I can´t even do that on my own, I need you for everything.
