10/11/2007 - How To Never Stop Being Fruitful Jeremiah 17:7-8

How To Never Stop Being Fruitful

REFERENCE: Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. 8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Observation: What is our hope and confidence in? Some have it in their abilities, or in what they have, or what they know, or how they look. If our trust is in any of those things there will come a time when “heat”, or “drought” " the difficulties of life, destroy our ability to be productive. If, on the other hand, our confidence is in God, He never changes, no matter our circumstances. So, when we face the heat of opposition or long months of drought " setbacks that seem to last forever, we can still have the emotional strength to keep on trying and keep producing something of value.

Application/Confession: Too often I find myself trusting in my own ability to keep on hanging on. To the extent that my trust is in myself, I find that in tough times I stop being productive. I want to trust fully and whole heartedly in the Lord. I don’t want to be derailed by life.

PRAYER: Lord, You have called me to great things. I know they will never fully come about unless my trust and confidence is in You. Teach me to live that way.
