A Might Pugnacious Are We?
REFERENCE: Proverbs 26:21 A quarrelsome person starts fights as easily as hot embers light charcoal or fire lights wood.
Observation: Sometimes we don’t realize what an “igniter” we might just be. We may not think of ourselves as quarrelsome or pugnacious but if we find fights breaking out around us, if we find that others seem to get “steamed up” when we start speaking, then perhaps we should look not to what we are saying so much as how we are saying it. There is a way of presenting even the truth that causes people to want to fight. Often it is because of an air of superiority or cocksure-ness, or pride that rubs others the wrong way. If we are careful of the attitude we put across, we can discuss even the most difficult issues in peace.
Application/Confession: I have to be careful. I love a good argument. That is not a statement coming from my born-again spirit but from my not-born-again flesh. I need to learn not to create conflict where it is not necessary, especially in my family.
PRAYER: Warn me Lord when I am becoming quarrelsome. Keep me in that perfect peace that only comes from You.
