What Really Sunk Sodom

(hint: It Wasn’t Homosexuality)

REFERENCE: Ezekiel 16:49-50 Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door. 50 She was proud and committed detestable sins, so I wiped her out, as you have seen.

Observation: We see things so differently than God does. He is angry with a city and wipes it off the face of the map because of pride, gluttony, laziness and lack of charity. We look at those sins and pass them off as being not all that important. In fact, how many in the church deal with gluttony and laziness and are never, ever confronted about it? How many Christian leaders are proud, lazy and gluttonous and feel no great moral compunction against it?

We need to adjust our view. It may not be our job to get the church or it’s leaders to do anything, but we ought to look inside of ourselves and see if we are given over to these kinds of sins. God hates them; so should we - even when we find them in ourselves.

Application/Confession: I am just ending a retreat where I ate too much!! I know that my body would operate better if it was lighter. I need to take this reminder about how God feels about gluttony seriously. I think I will fast today ;).

PRAYER: Lord, teach me to truly treat my body as your temple. I’m sorry that I have abused it by how I eat at times. I want to bring my eating habits under submission to You. Thank You for Your grace for forgiveness, acceptance and the power to change.
