How To grab a Hold of The Promise
REFERENCE: Hebrews 10:35-36 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.
Observation: If we want to receive what God has promised us, the writer of Hebrews makes a few good suggestions: 1) don’t let your faith slip away. The Bible makes it clear in James that if we don’t have faith we will receive nothing from the Lord. He expects us to trust in His goodness and provision.
2) We need to endure patiently the challenges that life brings. It is not an endurance that is nothing more than holding on by our toenails. It is continuing to do what we are called to do even when it is painful and difficult. If it wasn’t hard it wouldn’t require endurance.
3) Understand that it is only after we have lived in endurance that the promise can come to be realized. The way God does things is that the promise, like with Isaac, like with Joseph, only comes after the person receiving the promised has been tested by trial and the loss of the dream, that the promise is fully realized.
Application/Confession: I am struggling, right now, with the idea of enduring through a tough time. I know that what God has promised me, and it is a large promise, is just on the other side of this difficult time. If I want it I must endure patiently and confidently expect His blessing.
PRAYER: Lord, give me the faith to believe that as I patiently endure and faithfully fulfill my call, You will bring about Your promises of prosperity in my life.
