Sin Makes You Stupid

REFERENCE:  Psalms 111:10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.

Observation: How does one get wiser? The usual answers, and good ones they are, are to study God’s Word, hang around wise people, and learn from experience. Here we learn something new. This scripture tells us that if we obey God we will grow in wisdom. If that’s true then the inverse is true as well; if we don’t obey His commands, we can not be wise. Evidently wisdom is not just something in our heads, it is also in our hearts. When we give ourselves over to sin, the sin starts making sense, for a short time, until the consequences catch up with us. Sin dements our brains and makes it impossible for us to think clearly.

Wisdom comes from the clarity of thought that only accompanies right living.

Application/Confession: It has been my life long pursuit to become wiser. I can see here that how I live will have a big part to play in the success of that pursuit.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me wisdom and the grace to follow Your commands for me.
