11/16/2007 - HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT MONEY? Hebrews 13:5-6
How Do You Feel About Money? REFERENCE: Hebrews 13:5-6 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” 6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” Observation: There is an interesting connection here between the love of money and fear of man. Perhaps what the writer of Hebrews is getting at is that we love money and getting things because it serves as a buffer against what others can do to us. It is a form of social security in an uncertain world. Clearly, we should take care of our money carefully. Certainly, we should make sure that our families are provided for. What we are cautioned not to do is to believe that the more we have and the more we accumulate, the more secure we will be. God is challenging us that our security should be in Him; “The Lord (not money or stuff) is my shepherd (the one who looks after my needs and leads me along safe paths), so I will have no fear.” |
