11/25/2007 - WHY DO YOU BELIEVE? I Peter 3:15-16

Why Do You Believe?

REFERENCE: I Peter 3:15-16 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way.

Observation: How can we be involved with telling others about our relationship with God and encouraging them to find Him as well?

First, we need to make sure that our lives reflect the fact that we worship God"that we place Him and His commands as central to our lives. If we are living selfish, Godless lives, our words will have no credibility.

Second, be ready to explain why we believe. Notice that we are not called to “bug” people into the Kingdom or hassle them when they don’t want to hear but we should be ready. If we live right, people will notice and they will ask. We need to be ready to answer.

Third, God does not call us to argue and fight for Him. In fact, we are to be gentle and respectful with those we are talking to. Too often Christians make their faith a reason for conflict. Arguing will never bring a person to salvation.

Application/Confession: I want to be respectful and gentle in the way I do it but I want to tell others about Jesus. I simply don’t do it enough.

PRAYER: Dear God, please bring people across my path that I can share the Good News with. Help me to be gentle but also faithful and persuasive. Eternal lives are in the balance.
