How to Be a Good Pastor/shepherd
REFERENCE: 1 Peter 5:2-3 Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly--not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. 3 Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.
Observation: This section of scripture is important to me as a pastor/shepherd. It reminds me how to do my job. I have to remember that the flock has been “entrusted to me”. It is a divine trust that I must take seriously. The people I lead are not mine, they are God’s. I am called to do my job, not out of obligation but because I have willingly responded to my commission. It is not my place to look to see what I can get out of it, but what I can give into it. I am not in my position to act as a dictator, using my authority to push people around, but to use it to provide tender care. The best way I can lead, by far, is by example.
