I have the Power to live right
REFERENCE: II Peter 1:3-4 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
Observation: Do we have what it takes to live a life free from the control of our sinful desires? This passage tells us that we do. We have everything we need to live a godly life. We have enough self-control (given by the Holy Spirit). We have enough wisdom (given by God directly and through His Word). We have enough grace. God has promised all of these things to us and as we grab a hold of these promises we can be assured that there really is no temptation too big for us to face.
The key is to discover that we can truly "share his divine nature". It doesn't seem possible until we recognize that He, the Divine One, lives in us. As we really get used to that idea, then we discover that holiness is not a matter of becoming something that we are not but living out something that we already are. It means that we have a constant souce of grace (a gift of power) to deal with sin, if we stop and reconnect to the divine nature inside of us.
Application/Confession: Sometimes I feel, when faced with temptation, that I am simply not strong enough. How freeing and encouraging it is to read the promise that God has already given me all I need to live a Godly life.
PRAYER: Dear God, help me to see that I have all the power I need to live right.
