The Cure for Stress and Pressure
REFERENCE: Psalms 119:143 As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands.
Observation: We live in a stress-filled world. There are so many demands on many of us and so little time to get them done. How do we deal with pressure and stress? Find joy in God’s commands.
How is that an answer? For two reasons; first, one of the big stressors in our lives is simply because we are doing the wrong thing. Sin is dysfunctional. It makes our hearts, minds and circumstances malfunction. That creates stress and pressure.
Secondly, His commands tell us what to do in difficult situations. Many times what creates the stress is either doing too much and risking burn out, or doing too little and risking not addressing the problem. When we follow the day-by-day commands of God then we will be in the “sweet spot” doing just what needs to be done"no more and no less.
Application/Confession: I deal with a lot of stress and pressure. I sometimes overwork trying to make it all work out. What I need to do is to stay very attentive to His commands.
PRAYER: Lord, please take my overload and help me to stay joyfully engaged doing only what You command me to.
