Pure Hearts, Seeing Eyes
REFERENCE: Matthew 5:8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
Observation: It is the right thing to do to have a pure heart but, beyond it’s basic rightness, it is also a fundamental requirement if we are going to see God. We all want to see Him, have Him present and visible in our lives.
If we wonder where He is it may be because our hearts are impure. Illicit sexual desire, being overly self-focused, loving this world will all keep us from “seeing” Him. If we want Him, we need to take a look inside of ourselves and change, if necessary.
Application/Confession: I want two things that are mutually exclusive. I want to know God, to really see Him and experience Him as being present with me all the time. On the other hand, my heart can be promiscuous, loving so many things that it should not. In this new year I want to circumcise my heart so that it loves God only and makes a place for Him to come and dwell.
PRAYER: Circumcise my heart, Lord. Cut off everything that gets in the way of me fully and completely loving You and You alone.
