12/22/2009 - Who Cares? Zec. 2:8

Who Cares?

REFERENCE:  Zec. 2:8 After a period of glory, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me against the nations who plundered you. For he said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession."

Observation:
How does God feel about us individually? He considers you and I His most precious possession! Here we are assured that if people set out to harm us, God takes it personally. Not only does this assure us of His love, but it enables us to let go of the need to retalitate against those who would harm us. If God is going after them, we don't have to. We can let go and forgive; justice will still be served. This should also bring us up short when we are about to say or do something to a brother or sister. Do we realize, at that moment, that we are about to cause pain to someone of whom the God of all the universe says; "Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession." It would be wise to consider carefully what we are about to do.

Application/Confession:
There are times when I wonder about my value. I question how important I am to anyone. I wonder if it matters if others hurt and abuse me. This verse gives me hope. God cares and His care gives me the ultimate value.

PRAYER:
God--thank You that You care for me, even when others are against me. Thank You that I am your treasured possession. I need to know and feel that this is true.
