3/26/2010 - Getting God to Dance To Our Tune Luke 7:31-32

Getting God to dance to our tune

Reference: Luke 7:31-32 “To what can I compare the people of this generation?” Jesus asked. “How can I describe them? 32 They are like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends, ‘We played wedding songs, and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t weep.’"

Observation: Too often we are like this as Christians, we don't want God to be "large and in charge", we want Him to dance to our tune. We're doing our bit--why is He not His? It borders on a kind of manipulation.

We must always remember that He is not our play thing or good luck charm. He is the God of all the universe and, while He has promised to love us and bless us, the most appropriate position we can take is to be bowing at His feet. When we forget this we start to get frustrated

that He is not doing things "our way".

There is only one way and it is His.

Application/Confession:
I sometimes get frustrated that God is not responding to the beautiful music I am playing for Him. I want Him to act and to act NOW--start dancing, will ya?

I forget about all the times I wanted God to "do His thing" my way and what a disaster it would have been if He had listened to me. I must trust that He has a better plan than I do. After all, He always has.

PRAYER: God teach me the trust, the reverence and the awe that would press me to give up any sense I would have of trying to control You. Remind me to fear You as I should. I know You love me. I also know I need to fear You.
