My thoughts on Abortion

I read this article in my magazine Utne, about abortion that sort of got me thinking, and some of what was in the article I agree with and some of it I did not

I am very much pro choice but I am also genreally against extremist on either side of any issue regarudless of what my opinon on that issue is.

I do very much belive that if a woman should find herself in a difficult situtation in which she had come to be pregenent without planning upon it, or without having an interest or want of having children, or just in a place in her life where she was not really ready to have children then abortion should be seen as an accepted and legetimate resolution to that problem. I do not think that abortion should be affiliated with anything shameful or dirty. It has always been my belief that the child would not beneift anyway if born into an enviroment that either resented and did not want it, or could not really support it either finaicaly and or emotionaly.

But there is one thing in the article that I did not really agree with, that I think touched upon the kind of extremeism that usually ends up hurting the cause more then helping it. There was a quote in the article that went as follows For now it is unlikely that tv viewers will ever see one of the lissome gals of The OC sporting one of Plan Parenthoods "I had an abortion" babytees prolimaing that ending her preagnency was the best decsion she ever made" The reason I disagree with this is becasue I do not nessciarly beleive that abortion should be seen as just another method of birth control no different then the condom or the pill. The reason I think this has nothing to do with my feelings about wheather the fetus is a human or not, I do not think it really is, but that aside the reason I feel the way I do about this is becuse it is a medical procudure and all medical procdures have a certain risk factor to the patient.

I would now like to take this argument in another direction and one that might be difficult for others to reall wrap thier heads around ,but here goes. A lot of the arguments that are made against abortion revolve around the concept that the fetus is a human life, and so abortion is the taking of innocent life, now these arguments tend to come from Christain beleif system as they are the biggest pro-liferes. So if you step back a moment, even if you are against abortion, you should not be in favor of it being outlawed if you are in favor of the first ademendment. Because there is this thing called speration of chruch and sate. And if you really think about it, if abortion is made illeagal that will be a law that is forced upon everyone based off the Christain agenda. If abortion is made illegal then the gorvement will in essence be forcing everyone to subscribe to a relgious moral value. Now granted I am sure there are some people out there that are against abortion that are not Christain but most the pro-life arguments that are made are in fact using the bible and God in somewhat to support said arguments.
