The use of swearing can be an effective tool when it is used "properly" that is to say well placed where it feels natural to be there, where it seems to be expressing a porticuarly strong emotion, or in some cases it can also be used more low key in works of humor or satire, to display a certain sarcasim about the subject being spoken of. Becasue It is a part of reality that people do swear, so to incoperate it into writing can sometimes add a bit of reealisim to make it more relataable. Swearing can also add a sort of casulaness to a peice in this way, make a reader feel comftrable with it instead of set a part from it. But even so, if it is used haphazardly and purely for the "shock" value of saying the word, or just to try and grab the eye with the potent word. Or is simply thrown within a piece without really feeling that it is being used as a tool, that it is truly relevent. If a peice would sound just the same and loose nothing without the use of the fowl language then it is best to leave it out, becasue misplaced swearing, or badly ussed swearing in a peice can degarde it and make it seem sort of amaturish or immature, less classy which will effect what others think of your work. Swearing should not be a taboo, but it is a word like any word, and a writer should never loose sight of how to use thier words in the most effective manner possible no matter what the word is or what sort of word.
