Iron ChefSome of the best shows are the ones that are not suppose to be funny, but end up being so anyway. There is this one show that I am totally hooked on, though I do not get to watch it very often because it comes on at the same time as the Daily Show, but I watch it whenever I can. The show is Iron Chef, though I know a cooking show does not sound like it could be very interesting, this one is great.
The basic premise of the show is there are the three Iron Chefs, and each time a chef is invited to what is called the Kitchen Stadium to challenge one of the Iron Chefs in a cook off, they have one hour to cook as many dishes as they can and they have to make up the dishes right on the spot because the theme or main ingredient which has to be included in all the dishes is not reveled until right before they have to go off and cook, so they do not have any time to prepare. Then a panel of judges picks the winner.
What makes the show so great is the fact that first of all the chefs have to be given a reason to be competing against each other, like it is some sort of personal rivalry. Every show starts out with something like "If memory serves me right, so and so came into the Kitchen Stadium 5 years ago, and was defeated by the Iron Chef and now his top apprentice has come to win victory for his master. Also the host of the show who they call the chairman always comes out dressed in these flashy, sequined, frilly, lace jackets, like something Elvis or Michael Jackson would ware, and he also always wares these black leather gloves. There is this announcer for the show, and the judges will be talking about what the chefs are doing, and every now and then the announcer will interrupt and start talking about something totally random as if someone asked a question about even though the judges were talking about something completely different, and they even have instant reply. One of the chefs will dump something out of a pot and the announcer will be "Oh look at that, lets take another look" and they will instant reply it in slow motion. The show is also a Japanese show so it is all dubbed over in English.
