The Rainbow, I found to be a very interesting and thought provocative book, it was in fact considered to be highly controversial in the time that it was written in, in the early 1900's, I believe it was around 1918 or 1917, but I could not be certain now. I
It is a story about a young girl's, who becomes a young woman, journey and struggle to try and find herself, because she never feels like she quite fits in but being the time period that it was written in and takes place in, as a woman she really does not have very many options open to her in life.
Another aspect of the story that I highly enjoyed was the unique way it dealt with things, especially relationships, doing so on a highly emotional level, the story was more about, not necessary how the people relate to each other, but their own emotional dilemmas but where they see themselves in the relationship and the internal conflicts they are dealing with, that does then have some outward effect on the physical relationship.
It was about the things that people do not talk about, but deeply feel, and try to make peace, with, and do not always understand.
