One of the most perhaps amazing, and memorable events of my life, happened when I was in Tahoe one year, I cannot remember exactly when it was. I have a weird memory like that, I can remember the even clear as day, but I seem to loose the details of exactly when it happened, how long ago it was, or how old I was at the time, but I believe that it occurred sometime before I was in high school.
I always had the habit of getting up early and then going out to walk around in the woods, well this time when I was out, I saw something about maybe 25ft or so away that at first looked like a really big dog, it was sniffing around the trash of the cabin sort of across from the one we were staying in, and at first I only saw its backside, but then it like lifted its head and looked back, and I realized it was a bear. And we like looked at each other right in the eyes, and I just remember this strange feeling of connection, I cannot recall being the list bit afraid because I knew it was not going to hurt me, we had this understanding pass between us, it knew that I was no threat and we had this brief moment of almost oneness or complete harmony between us and then it started to walk off on his way and I ran into the cabin to tell everyone that there was a bear outside.
That was the second time I have ever seen a bear, the first time was when I was like 4 or 5 years old, and I was out camping, and off in the distance walking through the woods I saw this mama bear walking with two cubs behind it, though nobody else believed me when I went to tell them, my dad told me it was probably a raccoon, but I know what I saw, and I certainly know the difference between a bear and a racoon.
Then after the encounter in Tahoe I saw a juvenile black bear once when I was out hiking, it seems as if I had one more bear encounter, though now I cannot quite recall it.
