Against the Wall
A lonely day to wake up
to a sun that doesn’t care,
when the sky just seems to
shrug, and there is no reason
to rise.
Everything just hovers in place
with an uncleared haze,
like being somewhere between
wake and sleep.
You cannot find the strength
but the light won’t let you
be pulled back down into
the comforts of the dark.
Songs seem to play upon
the radio that cannot be
quite made out, telling
their old stories that
everyone can recognize.
When it seems like it should
all be over and you’re just
hanging on by threads, how
do you look the sun in the eye
and tell it to still shine or
push the dwindling sky aside.
Just trying to find some
motivation inside, to face
each new day with the comforts
of the dark calling you back
down, but somehow you know
it is not right.
So just trudge through the
walls of time until the crest
is breached, and the true light
is discovered, no longer just
its shadow.
