The Magus is a great, and truly fascinating book, it is ranked among one of my faveorites as it is one of the most memorable books I have read. It is a work of sure genuis I thought. It is full of twists and turns, leaving you completely on the edge of your seat and the tip of your toes, becasue it is impossible to know what is comming next. There is a surprise around every cornner.
The story is about this young American teacher, college profresser, who comes to Greece for a job he got at a university and he ends up meeting this man, an old eccentric who owns his own small island. The Amercian goes to visit him upon the island and soon finds himself within a physichological game, though he does not know what is going on and every time he thinks he is one step ahead, the eccentric is 3 or 4 steps ahead.
It is the kind of book where you could ask yourself what you would have done in that situation and how you would have responded and acted and if you could have figured it out or beaten it.
It is truly riviting.
