Belated
I had a friend but we lost
touch with each other, when
I received a letter, it had his old
address, I tossed it on the table
meant to look at it later, but the time
just seemed to disappear.
It was two years when I finally
remembered, I went to open it and
thought I would drop in, it had been
so long so I picked up the phone and
dialed, it rang and rang, but there came
no answer.
Finally I thought I would just drive
over, had no way of knowing if he
even still lived there, but I would hope
for the best and maybe surprise him.
I did not know then the surprise would
be on me, I saw the lights were on as
I drove up, came to the door to knock
but it pushed right open, unlocked.
When I stepped in I realized I was
too late, the scarlet on the floor
testified to that, the stench was nauseating
the body starting to rot, it was a wonder
no one else ever noticed.
So I stood there and thought of the
letter, I understood now why the phone
was never answered, I should have come
sooner, but there seemed so many
distractions.
