Women and the Media

Posted in Thoughts

Every once in a while someone leave a comment in my blog which I feel the need to speak more on, and such has come to happen. In my entery about Top Model, this comment was posted

Recently I was watching a program on models and they were showing the photo shoots and layouts of the photos. Then they showed the photos again after they had been tweeked and airbrushed and digitally altered and my goodness the difference the touch ups made was amazing. And we have young people out there in this superficial world who just think they have to look like these models and little do they know it's unattainable. How can they look as good as a digitally altered and air brushed photo in a glossy magazine? So many of our young not only here but everywhere are starving themselves to become like an impossible tarted up photo. Now I ask where's the sense in that? And do these people who produce these magazines care...I think not. L O L :)

Now this is an issue which I have come to have rather mixded feelings about that I want to address now. On the one hand I understand what is being said, and I agree that the way the media portrays women is unrealistic and superficial and that such might have some influence on people but on the other hand I have always been a person to hold people accountible and belive in personal responseablity and people having to think for themselves.

I do not think anyone with any shred of intellegence be it male or female turly exepcet women in real life to look the way they do in mazagine ads, or on tv in commercials, on bilbored in the movies and so on. We all can agree and acknowlge that these are just more or less fantasy images even if they are using real people, they are altered to portray a certain look. But I do not scienerly belive anyone to exepct people in real life to actualy look like that, and those that do are just idiots that are not worth the time of day.

Now it is true that younger girls in middle school and highschool, might be more impressionable then grown adults and fall under preassures and are dealing with insecurities but that is what they have parents for. If young girls are starving themselves to try and look like fantasy images of women then it is there parents that should be held accountiable for it just as much as anything or anyone else, it not more so.

I am tired of women using the medial portrayls of women as thier excuse for why they do not have any self-esteem or why they have to go on this or that diet or look like this or get plastic surgey or don't have a date. Where is the personal accountiablity here? I an assure you and promoise you I look nothing like a model in a magazine add, but guess what I don't care, I have full confidence in myself and I can tell you from first hand experince guys will still like you and think you are hot even if you do not all look like super models. So just chill out and be who you are. It is when you try and alter yourself that you loose resepct and attract loosers who just want something superficial and come off as making yourself just look like a dumb bimbo.

So everyone just take a deep breath and accept the fact that the meida will portay unrealistic women as a ploy to sell thier goods, stop using that as an excuse to play the victirm car and stop blamming all your problems on that. Take accountibality for yourself and get a clue that no one really exepcts you to look like that.

I AGREE WITH YOU!

I agree with what you say, but there are young naive school girls and not so young superficial people who unfortunately can't think like you and me for what ever reason and they do believe what is portrayed and some actually die from starvation or mental anxiety. Now lets face it if something is put out there for long enough and presented very well some people are going to believe it and a hit on the head with a sledge hammer would not remove their belief in what they see.Parents can chain a young person to his bed and they can drag them to the table kicking and screaming and force feed them and they can take them to medical facilities for help but that's all they can do and then as you say it's back to the bowler. I think like you if someone doesn't like the way I look they can get lost because I know I'm a good person and respect myself and others around me and importantly I like myself. This is where these other lost gullible souls get lost because I don't think they like themselves and are therefore easy candidates to be brainwashed by the glossy magazines. So on reflection you are right if they liked themselves they wouldn't have a need to spend their money on glossy magazine pipe dreams that turn into heart break and more anxiety. Thanks for your point of view. L O L :)
