My Belief SystemI have made refrences before to what my beleifs are but I have never really stated them and so I thought that I would address that issue to give a more clear view. Though I take what I belive very seriously as much as anyone of any religion does, though I like to think with a little more sense of humor and less stick in the ass about then then certain relgions. I tend to consider myself more of spiritual person then religous person. I am a private and personal worshiper that prefer now to belong to any groups, orginizations, temples, etc...
I tend to refer myself as being a Pagan, this is a very vauge and umbrella term which is why I like it, becasue of the stated above, my not belonging to any one particuler group or another. Instead of I have sort of formed my own beleif system around the many different things I have studided.
Part of the reason I decided to post this is becasue a lot of the time, when I tell people I am pagan they ask me what it is I belive. Of course I cannot go into every detail of it but I can give some basics. And in other posts I have already hinted and things that I beleive in here and there.
I am a polythesit which is the worship in more then one god and goddess, but I see the Mother Goddess whom I call Gaia as being the Great Mother of all the dietes. I do not worship any particular pantheon, but I think essentially all cultures worship the same gods and goddesses just with different names and faces, so I choose whichever aspects best suite me. I incorpetate diestes of the Greeks, Egyptions, Hindu, Norse, Celtic, and so on.
I do have what some call an alter god, patron god, or personal god. This is a dieity that is epsecially worshiped by a person, or sometimes a household. It is seen as being the garudian of that person or household, and as special traits that most appeal to the individual, genreally a person has an expeince which leads them to belive they had some encounter and experince with a particular god and that is what leads them to make that god thier patron god. My patron god is taken from ancient egypt and is Horus
Another God that has particular importance to me is Shiva from Hinduism.
Becasue paganism is such an umbreall term the things pagans beleive does tend to varry so I never like to cliam that I speak for all pagans when I speak of what I do belive in, what I say goes for me personally though there may be others whom share simillar beleifs to me.
I beleive in some form of reincarnation, basicaly I belive that everyone was put here for a reason, to fulfill a certain dystiny though it might take many lifetimes to do so, because there is free will and a person might make choices to stray from the path, so they are reborn, what a person is reborn into can depend on how they lived thier perivous life. Once a person does finally fullfill what there destiny might be then there souls are eventurally free from the process of brith, death and rebirth, I think after that it returns to whatever that person would consider paradise.
Going hand in hand with my beleifs of reincarnation is my beleif in Karma, becasue it is Karama that can help determine what a person is reborn as. I think when people speak in terms of good and bad luck it is really the work of Karma. Whenever something bad happerns to me, I think it has happend for a reason and is the result of something I have done, I feel the same when something good happerns to me.
I beleive in harmony with nature and that humans are not surperior to animals and that it is not the job of humans to rule over animals and the earth, I think that humans are just as much of the cycle as everything else and that all life should have equal value. All living things have souls, and all living things had come conciosuness and wisdom they can impart.
The idea of balance is a very important one. There needs to be balance in all things, in life and nature. Between good and bad, the yin and the yang, and so on. The pendulim cannot swing too far on either side. It would not nessciarly be a good thing to have everything bad oblitherated becasue that would upset the balance.
Well I think this covers in some deatils the basics of what I beleive in. Of course I cannot cover every little thing, at least not all at once, but I am sure more of my beleifs will seep out here and there with the things that I post. This was just something of an overview to give some idea as to where I am coming from and to make my beleifs a little less obscure. 7:03 PM - 4/27/2006 - post comment
