EducationOut here there is an issue that has been something of a big deal as of late, and as usual I have something to say about it and want to weigh in on it. Sometimes I think that people like to complicate things and make big debates about things that are really quite simple. The issue is about a bill that they are trying to pass in CA which will in schools K-12 I belive, teach about the historical contributions of homosexuals, and change all the text books to talk about the homosexuality of varrious figures of history. Anyone whom has read any of my previous and older blog entires knows from things I have said before that I am a huge supporter of gay rights and I fully belive in gay marraige, and I see nothing in the least wrong with homosexuality. But the way I look at it is this. There has throughout history been several important and significant people whom have been homosexual, and these people should not be ignored or left out becasue of that. I completely agree that the contributions, deeds and role of homosexuals in history should be taught in shcool. But where I differ is this, I really do not think it is nesscary or that it achives anything to acutally discuss thier homosexualty within the school. Students should know all about the the great and wonderful things Eleanor Rossevelf for one has done, but they do not have to know that she had a lesbian lover. And I feel the same way about hetrosexulaity as well, I really do not see any reason or any value to discussing the personal relationships of anyone within the context of a history class particuarly at that grade level between K-12. It should only be thier acomplishments and the things they did to affect history which should be brought to the school reguardless of who or what they are. The way I see it you should let them wait untill they go to college to learn about the juicy stuff. It is much more fun that way, and that is what college if for. You are amazed about the things they don't teach you in school when you go to college, and I think it should stay that way. 9:17 AM - 5/25/2006 - post comment
