It has always baffled me the stigma people at least certain people seem to have agains two people in a relationship living together without being married, in some cases it is direcetly related to the Christion testiment against premaritial sex, but it seems that some people also see it as somehow harmful or disrespectful to the consisitution of marriage, and then something had occured to me it was one of those things that just kind of dawned on my suddenly when I was thinking about it. And it might offer a nice new presepctive.
In traditional Celtic culture if two people wanted to get married they were not allowed to do so untill they had lived together first for a period of time. It was a year if I remeber correcetly, from Beltane to Beltane. If you wanted to get married you would first go through what was called a handfasting in which you had to live together for this set amount of time to figure out if you truly were compitiable for each other, and to make sure marriage is what you really wanted. And then by next Beltane you could either say yes, you wished to be wed, or you could just walk away if you decided that it was not going to work without any hastle or having to break any vows.

Thats cool. It reminds me off the original pagan celebration on February 14th. That was the day when young men would go out and choose a mate. The couple was then allowed to do whatever they wanted (wink wink, nudge nudge) for the rest of the day. Then of course Jesus had to come along and ruin everybodies fun. They slapped a Saint on the day and turned into another day to glorify Yahweh.
BLEH.
2 days ago, on August 1st, marked the 2 year anniversery of my girl and I moving in together. We are still not married, though we both would like to someday. But we are in no rush, we are young and have all the time in the world to start a family. I would like to be able to say that I became financially stable first before starting a family, instead of the other way around like most people do (including my parents and my older siblings).
