Labyrinth of the Mind

Is it one or the other

Posted in Thoughts
I was listining to the radio this morning and they were talking about how in Europe the goverment, I think of like 3 or 4 different conturies are trying to get together to regulate and make rules about the size of runway models, and trying to make it so that models that are judged too skinn and are under a certian wieght cannot walk the runway becasue of problems with body image they are having in young girls and such, and well I know in the US there is all sorts of talk and concerns about the media and how women are protrayed on TV and models and such and so forth, but this brought to mind a rather odd contridiction which they had mentioned upon the radio that I before never really gave much thought to. And that is that it is quite odd to be hearing stories like this in the very same age where obceisity is now seen as some wide spread disease and that more and more childern are starting to suffer from it. I mean, how does that work? How can at the same time our society and our young people be suffering from both anorexia and obecisity? It does seem a bit strange to still be squaking about the fact the media is making women feel like they have to be "perfect" and that they portay women in an unreal and idealistic way at the very same time when we are all alledgely getting fatter. It seems that if obcesity is such a problem then people are not so much worried or being affected any more by how the media portrays body image.

I agree..

But I don't think the government should become involved. Change should happen through industry ethics, the public's response, or things like that. How can they regulate that anyway, every model must have at least 10% body fat or something? And I'm not usually for less government.
