The Classic Underdog Story

Posted in Movies

I have lately been seeing the previews for this new movie comming out Employee of the Month, now I do not have any plans to see this movie, but it was the concept behind the movie that got me to thinking. It is a tale that has been done time and time again in the movies. A classic underdog story. There is the assertive sucessful guy and the looser who dosen't really do anything with his life goof off and the hot chick. The hot chick is initially attractive to the sucressful guy but then the looser decides he wants her and there is a rivelery and in the end the sucressful guy is made to look like a jerk and the looser gets the girl.

There is an intresting sort of physchology behind this kind of movie I think, what is it about this idea of villifying people who have goals and actually striving for something in thier life, while giving a validation to those who decide they just want to sit back and goof off. Though I know the movies are just suppose to be fun and mindless humor and be uplifting to a certain sort of person, and there is this deep rooted wanting to cheer for the underdog and see him come out ahead. But why dose it come in this form? I think there must be something more behind it then that, for it is a story line that has been done over so much. Why for once can't they have someone who is sucessfully and also happens to be a decent nice guy.

Even though I have more affinity with the underdog here, I have to side with the successful guy. Never be on the side of the underdog unless he tries to better himself. The underdog does willfully engage in this rivalry though, which in itself is a good thing. Oh well, I suppose I need to see the movie, before I can really comment on it. But first I'm going to Accepted and Beerfest!
