Laughing at Death and TragedyAs we probaly all know by now I am dark, and tend to have a darker and more morbid sense of humour, and there are things that are ok to laugh at it, even if in retrospect it might seem a bit insensitive or not politically correct. I was listening to the radio, and it is a talk radio station and the progam I was listning to is run by two guys and they were talking and one of them said "Did you hear the story about the shopping cart that fell on a woman."
Now that line in itself is funny, becasue for one thing it is out of the ordinary and it might bring to mind varrious different images of how a shopping cart just might come to fall upon someone, now the story behind that line is that some guys were playing this prank and strung up a shopping cart upon a flagpole and this 67 year old woman happend to be walking by when the shopping cart fell on her and broke her neck. Now of course there is nothing funny about an old woman getting her neck broken, but just because the outcome is not funny does not mean there cannot be seen some humor in the means which caused the outcome.
The idea if a shopping cart falling from the sky upon an unsupecting victim has some humor and it is ok to admit that there is humor there, becasue it is not the kind of thing that one would ever consider or imagine would happen, and just becasue you find humor in that, does not mean you think it is funny that an old woman had her neck broken.
Sometimes people die in funny ways, and it is ok to laugh when you here of something absurd happening, without laughing nessciarly laughing at the result which is produced, as as it is an accident and nothing someone inentionaly does to another person.
Also if someone dies because they do something blatently stupid which results in thier own death, that is not a tradedy, that is open season, in that case thier death is very funny and they did the world a favor by removing themselves from it, and you can laugh away without any shame or guilt. 9:48 AM - 10/26/2006 - post comment
