Adventures with SoapA few years or so ago I decided to swear away the use of all commercial brand of soaps, your doves, and ivory's and so on. And now I use exclusively your hand-made all natural soaps which are compraised of herbs, plants, flowers, bee wax, goats milk and so forth. There are several reasons for this change, and all of them are interconnected in someway and it all has a link back to my beleifs, as part of my sprituality I am drawn more and more to the use of products that are more natural and earthy, for one it is my beleif that natural ingredents that come from the earth are better for both your body and the enviroment then man-made chemicals, and one day I happend to be at a fair of sorts, I cannot remeber exzactly where, when I decided to buy one of these soaps sold at a kiasok and ever sense I have been hooked, and another reason I do it is to support the individual craftsman, or small family bussiness, and your mom and pop type shops over cooperations that have thier products sent to them from some factory somewhere. And another reason is for varity, its about texture, color, scent, pretty much once you have seen one bar of dove, or ivory, you have seen them all, they are all basicaly either oval or square shaped, smooth, creamy white. But each one of my soaps is uniquely different then the other.
It has become an adventure for me, for my soaps are collected from a vairty of different places and people, as I will only buy one or two here and there, and they come from all over, from Celtic fairs, arts and crafts fairs, quirky littte stores, from all over the different places I might get the oppertunity to visit, that I take a certain amount of exciment in each bar of soap, both in the finding of it, the choosing it amoung the selcetion offered, finding just the right one, and there is something of an adventure in the using of each soap, particuarly when it comes for the moment to select a new bar from my collection, as each is so different, and though when first purchased there is an idea of how it looks, how it will feel and smell, you do not really get the full effect or know untill you apply it to your skin, some are soft and smooth to the touch with rounded curves and edges, and come in bright colors, some multie-colored, and have tropical, exotic secents. Others are more square, bar like and come in earthy tones and might be grainy, with the herbs which compise them shown engrained aupon the bar, and feel rough to the touch, and have a more toned down earthy scent. Some seem to lather very lightly while others form a nice white foam. It offers the body an assortment of new, and different sensations, and is a treat to all of the scenes and each of those soaps, has a connection to a place, to a person, and create a sort of personal experince that holds an interconnection with experinces outside of yourself, as the ingredients of the soap once had to be collected, and prepared, and the soap crafted by someones hand, and then await to be choosen. 6:50 PM - 12/7/2006 - post comment
